From August, 1998 through January, 1999 I conducted interviews with 28 Libyan Jews, all but one of whom currently reside in Israel; the testimonies are mostly in Arabic and Italian, the two daily languages of the Libyan Jews, with some Hebrew and occasional use of French or English phrases. Here are some excerpts, in the voices of the narrators, together with English translations of those portions of the transcripts. Some full English transcriptions are also included. Linguistic shifts are especially interesting, and the language used in the original is noted in brackets in the transcript.
